Week 2 –Gestation
Day 12 & 13
– Unfolding, Fulfillment
For years I have done an advent devotion with my children - most of the ones we have done have centered around the Jesse Tree theme. I love this approach, because it tells of God’s unfolding story of His creation, of God’s continued promises throughout the Old Testament and the fulfillment of his redemption throughout the New Testament.
What Is a Jesse Tree?
The Jesse Tree represents the family tree, or genealogy of Jesus Christ. It tells the story of God's salvation plan, beginning with creation and continuing through the Old Testament, to the coming of the Messiah, Jesus The name "Jesse Tree" comes from Isaiah 11:1, "Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit." It speaks of King David's father, Jesse, who is in the lineage of Jesus Christ.
The Jesse Tree - One continuous Story of God and His People.
I love hearing God’s unfolding story of Salvation – the story of Jesus and his ancestors. There is something so deep, so rich, so revealing about hearing your families history – their stories, your stories. There is an understanding of the who’s , the whys, the where’s, the whens and the how’s.
Each year that we have unfolded these stories , I have received a greater revelation of who this Jesus is… the one who came to fulfill.
The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. Psalm119:130Pin It
