We also finished reading this months Magic Tree House book,
Afternoon on the Amazon. The girls are really enjoying this series.
One of the highlights for the week was the Bird Scavenger Hunt we went on. I printed off the bird fact cards and we taped them around the kitchen and hallway. The girls had to go around and find the cards to answer the questions on their answer sheets. This was a fun way to review and add some interesting facts to our unit on birds.
Our caterpillar that we found at the library spun it’s cocoon last week. Today it hatched into a butterfly. We will be completing a mini unit on metamorphism next week.
Those where some of the highlights of our week. We had a good, full week.
Another awesome and easy recipe from Pinterest….
… gotta love if you do not know what it is you can check out what I have on my boards here: My Pinterest
This recipe was really good. I had to make mine without the sour cream, cause a certain son, who shall remain nameless (my rock star son) used ours to make dip this past week…
It was still good without the sour cream but next time I am definitely making to with it. This was so easy to make!!!!
Chicken Spaghetti
Ingredients:
8 ounces angel hair pasta
2 cups chopped, grilled chicken or 1 large can of chicken
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 10-ounce can Rotel diced tomatoes and green chiles, undrained
8 ounces sour cream
Sprinkling of Parmesan or Mexican-blend cheese
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Boil pasta as package directs and drain. Mix all other ingredients (except cheese), add to cooked pasta and put in a 9" x 13" baking dish. Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes or until hot and bubbly.
Sprinkle with your choice of cheese and return to oven to melt.
This past weekend hubby and I went to Chico to visit our missionary daughter and attend our friends, Jenna & Sam’s wedding. Our beautiful Brittaney was in the wedding, as Jenna is one of her friends, she meet while attending her DTS (discipleship training) last year.
It was a perfect day for the wedding and a very special celebration of their love.
I was able to spend Monday morning in Brittaney’s classroom with her. What a joy to see her in action with her 5 adorable students. She is an excellent teacher and her children adore her. I think they enjoyed having a visitor for the morning.
We came home later Monday so our school week did not start until Tuesday. We are starting our new unit on SOUTH AMERICA. Some of the books we are reading this week are:
We are reading one of the Magic Tree House books each month as a reader for our Biome Series. This month we will be studying the Rain Forest.
We are reading the YWAM Biography on Jim Elliot. I am really excited about reading this one. When I was a newer Christian, the church we were attending had a musical presentation of the the life of the 5 missionaries that lost their lives among the Auca Indians in Ecuador. The presentation was called “At Any Cost” and it was so moving and pierced my heart for missions way back then.
Wednesday, we celebrated a birthday…
We had a special birthday party for our special boy, the girls made a sign for him - the “O” is a paw print (Blue’s Clues has beenone of his favorite shows since he was 3)…
We had party hats, and streamers… Played pin the face on the pumpkin… even had prices for the game Had goodie bags and cupcakes with Toy Story candies on the top. (another of Jonathan’s favorite characters)
The rest of the week we worked on getting back into the swing of things and plugging away at our new unit.
I have been wanting to try the following recipe for some time. We eat a lot of hotdogs and this seemed like a fun way to beef them up. I made my recipe way more simply than this one. Hot Dog Enchiladas Ingredients:
Place hot dogs in middle of tortillas and roll tortilla so hot dog and cheese is enclosed.
Preset oven for 350°F.
Pour half picante chili mixture in casserole dish.
Place hot dogs wrapped in tortillas into the casserole.
Top with remaining picante chili mixture.
Cook in oven for 20 minutes.
Take out of oven and top with cheese chopped onion and green chiles
Place back in oven until cheese has melted.
Take out cool and enjoy.
I sprayed the bottom of a glass dish with Pam. Put a little chili sauce on the bottom of the pan, wrapped cheap hotdogs in flour tortillas, added to the pan, covered with cheap chili with no beans (hot dog chili – I get at Walmart for .50 a can – I used two cans), covered with chili sauce and shredded cheese and then baked. They were a hit.
My kiddos love anything that resembles pizza. This week we have a special birthday boy that especially loves pizza, so I thought I would try making these...
1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Grease a 24-cup mini-muffin pan. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, Italian seasoning, salt and red pepper flakes (if using) ; whisk in the milk and egg. Stir in the mozzarella, Parmesan and pepperoni; let stand for 10 minutes.
2. Stir the batter and divide among the mini-muffin cups. Bake until puffed and golden, 20 to 25 minutes.
3. Meanwhile, microwave the pizza sauce until warmed through. Serve the puffs with the pizza sauce for dipping.
NOTE: All my batter did not fit into the 24-mini muffin pan. So I made a full size muffin with the leftover batter. Some pans are larger than others so you may not have have an issue.

Each year the Lord gives me a word or phrase to study throughout the year. He usually will confirm it more than once so I will know this is what He wants me to study and focus on for the coming year.
Last year He took me on a journey in discovering what it meant to "enter the land of the living."
A few weeks ago, He confirmed this years word/phrase:
the name or your name
He wants me to study verses that state "in the name" or "your name" or simple "the name."
Just at the sound of your name
...mountains shake
...oceans roar
...angels bow
...the earth rejoices
...people cry out
...morning breaks in glory
... creation sings your story
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and
under the earth. Philippians 2:10
As far as I could tell - just about every time the word "name" is used in the old testament, whether it was in reference to the Lord or someone else it come from the Hebrew word...
Shem - noun 1) name a) name b) reputation, fame, glory c) the Name (as designation of God) d) memorial, monument
Shem is a primitive word from
suwm
- through the idea
of definite and conspicuous position
Suwm (sum) - verb
1) to put, place, set, appoint, make
2) to set, direct, direct toward 3) to set, ordain, establish, found, appoint, constitute,
make, determine, fix 4) to set, station, put, set in place, plant, fix 5) to make, make for, transform into, constitute, fashion,
work, bring to pass, appoint, give
...to set
...to make
...to establish
...to set in place
...to plant
...to fix
... to determine
When I set, make, establish, set in place, plant, fix, determine....
the name
above all names...
in the forefront of my thoughts.... in the forefront of my life...
well... mighty things happen.
At Your Name, the mountains shake and crumble
At Your Name, the oceans roar and tumble
At Your Name, angels will bow, the earth will rejoice
Your people cry out
At Your Name, the morning breaks in glory
At Your Name, creation sings Your story
At Your Name, angels will bow, the earth will rejoice
Your people cry out
Chorus:
Lord of all the earth
We shout Your Name, shout Your Name
Filling up the skies
With endless praise, endless praise
Yahweh, Yahweh
We love to shout Your Name, Oh Lord
There is no one like our God
We will praise You, praise You
There's no one like our God
We will sing, we will sing
There is no one like our God
We will praise You, praise You
Jesus, You are God, we will say

He gets the first 2 weeks of October off each year. Even though he is not a major interruption in our day, my mind set is somewhat off for those two weeks.
My laptop is still not fixed and after several attempts to restore and fix it, I decided to put it aside. I do not want to restore it to the original settings because I will loose all the pictures I have taken the last few years and the forms and files I have created for school. I am not ready to give up on being able to restore them yet, but I needed to just set it aside for now. I learned my lesson on “NOT” backing up my files, and will do so in the future.
We spent this week wrapping up our Unit on North America and finishing reading our YWAM book on Cameron Townsend. The book started out a little slow buy part way through started to get really fascinating.
Cameron Townsend was the founder of Wycliffe Bible Translators. We talked about how one willing heart, desiring to follow God can do mighty things. The first Wycliffe Camp (school) they had had 2 students.
They started with: 2 workers 1 language 1 country
By the end of the book they had: 2,504 workers 510 languages 23 countries
This was so exciting for us to read about. We completed our biography on Cameron Townsend. I was grateful I had copied them ahead of time.
My sweet “little one” left this picture of her and I on my desk on day this week… Put a big smile on my face!!!
Daddy took Friday of from work to do some car stuff and everyone was in Saturday mode… including Mommy… so we took it off.
The beauty of homeschooling. We did 1/2 days Monday – Thursday, a good part of the summer, so this allows us the ability to take a day off here and there.
We went to the Library and picked up the books we ordered for out next unit....
South America...
While at the library... one of the women that works there
told us about the caterpillars that hang out on one of the bushes in the parking
lot. She suggested we gather some of them and take them home...
so this month we
will be adding a science unit on caterpillars and butterflies...
Kind of how
we roll some weeks.... by the seat of our pants...
Enjoying the random
moments of homeschooling....
