Weekly Wrap Up – Week 9

We spent all of this week wrapping up our unit on South America.

Each monthly Unit has specific elements to them. To help myself keep track of these elements for each month, I created this form. I fill it out for each month from my planning notebook and I have a quick snapshot of the month.  This also helps me not to neglect an area that we want to cover.

On Wednesday, we did a Bible Study on fear. Since it was Halloween and this holiday tends to focus on scary things, I wanted to redeem this part of the holiday andimage
spend some time focusing on the faithfulness of the Lord. I found this great Bible Lesson: “Faith Overcomes Fear” Bible Lesson for Children.

They had a great coloring sheet to download along with the lesson.

imageI also found this great bible memory verse coloring sheets:

We sand Matt Redman’s worship song -
You Never Let Go – Matt Redman
Even though I walk through the valley
Of the shadow of death
Your perfect love is casting out fear
And even when I'm caught in the middle
Of the storms of this life
I won't turn back, I know You are near
And I will fear no evil
For my God is with me
And if my God is with me
Whom then shall I fear?
Whom then shall I fear?

Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go of me
And I can see a light that is coming
For the heart that holds on
A glorious light beyond all compare
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
We'll live to know You here on the earth
Yes, I can see a light that is coming
For the heart that holds on
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
Still I will praise You,
Still I will praise You
We played it over and over, singing as we colored our Bible memory sheets. I loved it!!!

We were able to finish all the elements in our monthly unit with the exception of our Art, Music and Poet units.  We have not been able to get to those yet. I am determined though not to have the same ones up at the end of the year as we did in the beginning (which we have been know to do in the past).

I had a goal of completing one each month, but have realized that one every two months may be more realistic, but at the rate we or going it may be every three months… but looking on the bright side, if we do one every three months at least we will complete 3 units in Art / Music and Poetry instead of just one…  I can live with that… after all that would be progress!!!

Sept school 029Here is two of the silly sisters in their costumes… we do not go to all out… their awesome, wonderful, dedicated Daddy walked them down to one of the churches in our town having a Harvest Carnival. He is the best.

My little one has been leaving me Sept school 006notes around the house all week… She is precious…

That was our weekly wrap up,

  1. Kathey -

Thanks for linking with Collage Friday. You're so organized and I'm getting so many ideas from reading your post.

Re your question on my blog today about fine arts: I just sometimes have to put it FIRST if we want to get to it. Quite honestly, I find that the investment in putting it first sometimes is very worth it. Also, sneaking it in the back door is helpful. Here's a post about that: http://www.foreverforalwaysnomatterwhat.com/2012/08/guest-post-sneaking-music-in-back-door.html

  2. What a sweet, sweet note! I have been getting some from my youngest son and saving them all in my bedside table drawer. I have "love letters" from all the kids!

I enjoyed reading how you plan your months! This is our first year doing a 6-8 week on / 1 week off schedule, but I'm thinking I need to figure out some kind of planning thing for each session.

  3. I enjoyed reading all of your wonderful ideas and getting some scheduling ideas for myself! I think I will look into some Unit Studies for our family! We have also settled for doing 1 composer and 1 artist every 3 months, and it works well for us - giving us time to read several different books about each.
